Why Single Use Surgical Instruments ?

Less loss due to mishandling: Expensive instruments requires a lot of care. Improper handling may lead to damage of equipment but the single use instruments are free from any such usage risk.

Lower cost to Hospital / Doctor: As patients are directed to purchase these disposable surgical instruments from pharmacies / retailers, it results in benefiting the hospital whereas, reusable instruments are a capital expenditure for a hospital / doctor.

Safety: As these instruments are sold sterile, they do not carry the risk associated with improper or inadequate sterilization of the reusable instrument.

Risk / Responsibility: These instruments are not prone to carry infections due to single use. Hence, they reduce the risk of passing the disease to other patients in hospitals. This makes them more preferable over old and conventional instruments, which are sterilized every time before usage.

Low Cost of Maintenance: Sterilizing a reusable instrument is an expensive process, as it requires trained staff and high tech equipment. Further, the sterilization process has to be validated by some external-testing laboratory. But these ready-to-use disposable instruments eliminate this cost, save time and assure safety above all.

The sterilization procedures used in the clinical settings are not infallible. Researches have shown that on an average 4.5 hospital infections occur for every 100 patients that result in nearly 100,000 mortality annually.
